1. The Zero-Telemetry Guarantee
Hollow does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, crash trackers, or telemetry beacons. When you launch Hollow, open a tab, or type into the address bar, no data packet is sent to Hollow servers.
2. What Stays on Your Machine
All user data is stored locally in standard JSON files on your device:
- Bookmarks: Saved strictly to
~/Library/Application Support/Hollow/bookmarks.json. - Browsing History: Saved strictly to
~/Library/Application Support/Hollow/history.json. - Search Preferences: Saved locally via standard macOS
UserDefaults.
3. API Keys & AI Context Handling
When utilizing AI services in Hollow (Groq Llama 3.3 70B, Google Gemini, or Pollinations AI):
- Your API keys are encrypted at rest inside the macOS Keychain using Apple's hardware-backed Secure Enclave APIs.
- Prompts and selected tab context are transmitted directly from your Mac to the selected AI inference provider via encrypted TLS 1.3 connections. They are never proxied through any intermediary Hollow server.
- Hollow enforces a strict 3-message rate limit per session to prevent accidental quota exhaustion.
4. Cookies & Website Data
Web page rendering and cookie handling are governed by Apple's sandboxed WKWebsiteDataStore. You can instantly wipe all cookies, cached files, IndexedDB records, and session tokens at any time via Settings (⌘,) → Privacy.
